| Welcome to the Now Playing Reviews Database where
you can find our opinion of films which have had a cinema release in the UK.
Each of these movies are reviewed from a gay perspective, giving them
both an overall star rating plus our exclusive gay rating. The more stars out of a possible 10, the
better the film; similarly the more pink triangles, the greater the gay interest. A full list of
all our reviews appears below, and this week's current films are found on the Now Playing Main Page.
Most films are now available for rent on DVD and we recommend
ScreenSelect who operate an efficient online rental service by post with no late fees
and you can keep up to 3 DVDs for as long as you like.
If you'd like a film permanently in your DVD collection, then the best prices are
normally found at Amazon.

8 Mile
Movie Rating:
Electrifying |
|
If his performance in this semi-autobiographical flick is any indication,
controversial rapper Eminem stands poised to become a bona-fide movie star.
Queer politics aside, Eminem is sensational as Rabbit, a Detroit factory
worker who dreams of becoming a hip-hop performer. Consumed by self-doubt, he
watches local freestyle rap "battles" from the sidelines until he meets Alex
(Brittany Murphy), a wanna-be model with her own lofty aspirations, who
encourages him to follow his heart.

|
Despite the cliched premise, when Rabbit finally takes the stage to strut his lyrical stuff,
the results are electrifying. Whether that's due to Eminem's acting ability or his
uncontainable screen magnetism remains to be seen. Either way, he's never
upstaged by his more seasoned co-stars, among them Kim Basinger as his
good-for-nothing mum and Mekhi Phifer as his Dr. Dre-like mentor.
