| Welcome to the Now Playing Reviews Database where
you can find our opinion of films which have had a cinema release in the UK.
Each of these movies are reviewed from a gay perspective, giving them
both an overall star rating plus our exclusive gay rating. The more stars out of a possible 10, the
better the film; similarly the more pink triangles, the greater the gay interest. A full list of
all our reviews appears below, and this week's current films are found on the Now Playing Main Page.
Most films are now available for rent on DVD and we recommend
ScreenSelect who operate an efficient online rental service by post with no late fees
and you can keep up to 3 DVDs for as long as you like.
If you'd like a film permanently in your DVD collection, then the best prices are
normally found at Amazon.
Shag-a-delic secret agent Austin Powers (Mike Myers) and sassy undercover cop
Foxxy Cleopatra (Beyonce Knowles) do a little time travelling, as they attempt
to rescue Austin's dad, Nigel (Michael Caine), and thwart the world
domination schemes of Dr. Evil and Goldmember (both played by Myers).

The third instalment of the Austin Powers franchise continues the same
successful mix of gross-out humour, celebrity cameos, bad puns, sight gags,
double entendres, and pop culture parodies. Believing that "bigger is
better," this funny film starts with a fantastic action sequence featuring
cameos by some big-name Hollywood stars, but otherwise doesn't offer much
that's new. This spoof is rapidly becoming as worn-out as an old pair of
bell-bottom pants, but it's still so groovy, baby.

Gay Interest:
Yeah Baby
Several of the cameo performers have queer film credits and/or gay cachet, but to
say any more would spoil much of the fun - a US breakfast news show host does a gender
switch as a prison guard, and a Tony Award-winning actor plants a big wet kiss on Austin's
lips. Dr. Evil and Mini-Me, played by Verne Troyer, nuzzle each other
like young lovers. Goldmember, whose crotch got caught in a tragic
smelting accident, can't help commenting on guys' firm buns. Show queens can revel
in the musical production numbers. Michael York, who plays Austin's
superior, played bisexual in Cabaret, while Caine portrayed Christopher Reeve's lover in
Deathtrap and a gay beauty pageant consultant in
Miss Congeniality.
