| Welcome to the Now Playing Reviews Database where
you can find our opinion of films which have had a cinema release in the UK.
Each of these movies are reviewed from a gay perspective, giving them
both an overall star rating plus our exclusive gay rating. The more stars out of a possible 10, the
better the film; similarly the more pink triangles, the greater the gay interest. A full list of
all our reviews appears below, and this week's current films are found on the Now Playing Main Page.
Most films are now available for rent on DVD and we recommend
ScreenSelect who operate an efficient online rental service by post with no late fees
and you can keep up to 3 DVDs for as long as you like.
If you'd like a film permanently in your DVD collection, then the best prices are

Hart's War
Movie Rating:
Engrossing
|
|
In a German P.O.W. camp, American Col. William McNamara (Bruce Willis)
asks Lt. Tommy Hart (Colin Farrell) to defend Tuskegee airman Scott
(Terrence Howard) in his court martial for the murder of a racist soldier (Cole
Hauser). When McNamara orders him to manipulate the truth and Nazi
commandant Visser (Marcel Iures) offers unlikely legal assistance, Hart realizes
that more is going on than just a murder trial.

This engrossing, well-acted World War II drama rehashes Stalag 17, The Great Escape,
and A Few Good Men, and somehow the combination works. Director Gregory
Hoblit focuses more on a battle of wills than one of military might. The taut pace and
restrained performances make this an introspective, character-driven war film,
fueled neither by false heroics nor cheap patriotism.
Gay Interest: Little
The film cautiously avoids most war movie cliches, including
any macho bluster or soldier camaraderie. Gay fans will just have to
content themselves with admiring Farrell's dreamy face. Linus Roache, who
played the lead role in the gay-themed Priest, has a small part as one of
Willis' subordinates.
