| Welcome to the Now Playing Reviews Database where
you can find our opinion of films which have had a cinema release in the UK.
Each of these movies are reviewed from a gay perspective, giving them
both an overall star rating plus our exclusive gay rating. The more stars out of a possible 10, the
better the film; similarly the more pink triangles, the greater the gay interest. A full list of
all our reviews appears below, and this week's current films are found on the Now Playing Main Page.
Most films are now available for rent on DVD and we recommend
ScreenSelect who operate an efficient online rental service by post with no late fees
and you can keep up to 3 DVDs for as long as you like.
If you'd like a film permanently in your DVD collection, then the best prices are
normally found at Amazon.
In 2084 London, construction of a new tube line awakens a male dragon that has been
hibernating for millennia. Jump ahead 20 years, and the fire-breathing beast
and his offspring have decimated the world's population. From the small band of
survivors, American militia leader Van Zan (Matthew McConaughey) and British fire
chief Quinn (Christian Bale) team up to find a way to save mankind from total extinction.

Director Rob Bowman squanders a great premise - Independence Day with dragons
instead of aliens - denying the audience a blazing confrontation between man and beast and
settling for a single fleeting montage sequence. The adventure quotient is
low, as Bale and McConaughey are mostly talk and not much action.

Although the fire-breathing monster is pretty cool, this movie is full of hot air.
Gay Interest:
Passing
Early films for McConaughey included out screenwriter Don Roos' Boys on the Side
and queer director Joel Schumacher's A Time to Kill. Bale had an onscreen fling
with Ewan McGregor in the glam rock drama Velvet Goldmine.
