| Welcome to the Now Playing Reviews Database where
you can find our opinion of films which have had a cinema release in the UK.
Each of these movies are reviewed from a gay perspective, giving them
both an overall star rating plus our exclusive gay rating. The more stars out of a possible 10, the
better the film; similarly the more pink triangles, the greater the gay interest. A full list of
all our reviews appears below, and this week's current films are found on the Now Playing Main Page.
Most films are now available for rent on DVD and we recommend
ScreenSelect who operate an efficient online rental service by post with no late fees
and you can keep up to 3 DVDs for as long as you like.
If you'd like a film permanently in your DVD collection, then the best prices are
normally found at Amazon.

Rollerball
Movie Rating:
Avoid
As quickly as you can say "play ball," extreme-sports enthusiast Jonathan
(Chris Klein) becomes the newest champion of Rollerball, a hybrid of hockey,
roller derby, football, motorcycling, and pro wrestling.
|
|
When he learns that evil Russian entrepreneur Petrovich (Jean Reno) encourages team
violence to hike TV ratings, Jonathan, best friend Marcus (LL Cool J), and teammate
Aurora (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) sniff out the conspiracy and attempt to bring
down the corrupt sport.

Despite the advances in movie technology, this unbelievably bad remake fails to
improve on the mediocre 1975 sci-fi cult hit. The action is chaotically staged,
and the acting is excruciating, with Klein grinning idiotically at the most
inappropriate times. This movie has lost its ball bearings, so roll right past
it at the multiplex.
Gay Interest:
Low
Several women in a nightclub are dressed in mannish tuxedos,
and the female rollerball teammates wear S/M-like black and red
leather. Romijn-Stamos played the gender-switching Mystique in X-Men.
