| Welcome to the Now Playing Reviews Database where
you can find our opinion of films which have had a cinema release in the UK.
Each of these movies are reviewed from a gay perspective, giving them
both an overall star rating plus our exclusive gay rating. The more stars out of a possible 10, the
better the film; similarly the more pink triangles, the greater the gay interest. A full list of
all our reviews appears below, and this week's current films are found on the Now Playing Main Page.
Most films are now available for rent on DVD and we recommend
ScreenSelect who operate an efficient online rental service by post with no late fees
and you can keep up to 3 DVDs for as long as you like.
If you'd like a film permanently in your DVD collection, then the best prices are
normally found at Amazon.

The Scorpion King
Movie Rating:
Well-oiled fun
|
|
This spin-off from The Mummy Returns is a lively B-movie, prebiblical
action romp with a postmodern sensibility. To free the desert people
from bondage, warrior Mathayus (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) teams up with
beefy thug Balthazar (Michael Clarke Duncan) to kill Cassandra (Kelly Hu),
the sorceress advisor of brutal tyrant Memnon (Steven Brand), but treachery
abounds. |

The outrageous opening battle sequence establishes the comic-book
tone and is followed by an exaggerated assault of visual effects,
imaginatively choreographed attacks, and really bad dialogue. The
preposterous story is full of magic gibberish and stock characters from
every action movie ever made, but the movie is thoroughly entertaining in a
relentlessly stupid way. Turn off your brain and enjoy.
Gay Interest:
I Want Muscle
The movie is set in Gomorrah, but neighbouring Sodom is nowhere in sight, perhaps
to avoid damaging the kiddies' sensitive moral fibre. This movie may one day rank
as gay camp for all the well-oiled musclemen and supermodel warriors in every single frame.
