| Welcome to the Now Playing Reviews Database where
you can find our opinion of films which have had a cinema release in the UK.
Each of these movies are reviewed from a gay perspective, giving them
both an overall star rating plus our exclusive gay rating. The more stars out of a possible 10, the
better the film; similarly the more pink triangles, the greater the gay interest. A full list of
all our reviews appears below, and this week's current films are found on the Now Playing Main Page.
Most films are now available for rent on DVD and we recommend
ScreenSelect who operate an efficient online rental service by post with no late fees
and you can keep up to 3 DVDs for as long as you like.
If you'd like a film permanently in your DVD collection, then the best prices are
normally found at Amazon.
In the first movie, Carmen Cortez (Alexa Vega) and kid brother Juni (Daryl
Sabara) discovered that father, Gregorio (Antonio Banderas), and mother,
Ingrid, (Carla Gugino) were secret agents. Now on their first solo mission,
Carmen and Juni compete against rival spy kids Gary (Matthew O'Leary) and
Gertie Giggles (Emily Osment) to locate an energy depletion device that could
destroy the world.

This pint-sized version of a James Bond movie is the rare sequel that manages to
surpass the original. The gags are even more madcap than before, and director Robert
Rodriguez's loopy casting choices (Steve Buscemi plays a mad scientist) make this almost as
much fun for adults as for kids. With its fast comedy, grand-scale sets, flashy
special effects, and cool gadgets, this movie is like a wonderfully wild
amusement park ride.

Gay Interest:
Some
Gugino swapped spit with Molly Parker in The Center of the World. Banderas
began his acting career in several of ambisexual director Pedro Almodovar's gender-twisting
films and played Tom Hanks' lover in Philadelphia. Buscemi was an AIDS-afflicted gay man
in Parting Glances, and pansexual actor Alan Cumming has a cameo reprising
his role as Floop from the first film.
