Extra vaccines for at-risk people

Some vaccines are only available on the NHS for groups of people who need extra protection.

Vaccines for young people

The MenB vaccine is now offered, until March 2027, to young people who were born:

• between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008
• on or after 21 July 2001 and are starting university, or starting at some further education colleges (GOV.UK) for the first time in autumn 2026 and living at further education accommodation

The MenB vaccine protects against serious infections including meningitis.

If you're starting college or university, you should also make sure you've already had:

• the MenACWY vaccine - which protects against serious infections like meningitis. You can still ask your GP for this vaccine until your 25th birthday.
• 2 doses of the MMR vaccine - as there are outbreaks of mumps and measles at universities. If you have not previously had 2 doses of MMR, you can still ask your GP for the vaccine.
• the HPV vaccine - which helps protect against genital warts and cancers caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), such as cervical cancer.
